“Big Fish” kind of busy

“Sorry, life has just been so busy these days”
Typically this is the phrase used to excuse the lack of activity for all the mid-20-something-year-olds like me, living in this part of the world.
Normally, we tell ourselves that we’re “too busy” when we can’t seem to prioritize the thing that we wanted to do. Like if we had the time we would tend to it, but since there are bigger fish, we fry those instead.
But what if we’re not actually frying the big fish? What if we just got so caught up with the small fish that we don’t have the energy to carry the big fish? (Sorry this is sort of ambiguous, I’ll explain what I mean)
Sometimes, we end up being so focused on the small stuff that we forget about the big picture. We might be obsessing over the little things, like responding to emails or running errands, that we lose sight of the really big fish we should be frying.
For a while I’ve been so focused on making more money and living up to my own unrealistic standards (small fish) that I’ve run out of energy to take care of myself (big fish), and it was starting to take a serious toll on my mental and physical well-being. Don't get me wrong, I’m not saying I do any of this perfectly, but it’s crazy how much better you feel when you take time to care about yourself. Do things that fill your bucket - for me that means working on growing this business, baking for people I love, and spending time reflecting like this.
It takes energy to do anything, even if the “thing” is caring for yourself. It’s important to reserve some of that precious energy to handle those things that make you happy, like those big fish.
Anyway, if you made it this far I hope you enjoyed reading! Sounds cliché, but please remember to do the things you love to do. Take very good care of yourself.
Peace and love,
Shanisha
